A Birthday Adventure

We are on our last week here Verde Valley Thousand Trails and some of our friends Lizanne and Shorty Guptill showed up a few days ago. It’s been great having them here to share our evenings with great conversation and to play games. Yesterday was Shorty’s birthday and Liz wanted to surprise him with this great train ride through the Verde Canyon. She invited us to join them and I’m so glad we did. The Verde Canyon Railroad is a 4 hour tour through the canyon and mountains, the view is simply breathtaking… We got some awesome pictures while the young girl did some narrating as we went along.

After returning to the station we headed to our next destination… The Blazin’ M Ranch for some good ol’ chuck wagon vittles. This ranch was set up like a little western town then we moseyed on into the big red barn where we sat at picnic tables to eat They served BBQ Chicken, Baby Back Ribs, Cowboy Pinto Beans, Prickly Pear Coleslaw, Baked Potatoes and Flyin' Biscuits. Once the dinner bell rang they had us form a line and herded us through another room behind the stage area where they had that room all fixed up as if you were walking through a covered wagon, Really neat, and let me tell you, the food is awesome and then once everyone was served they came around and offered seconds on anything you wanted. I have never been to a dinner show where they gave you seconds… WoW, Oh I almost forgot the dessert, Apple Crisp a-la-mode…
I guess we hit it just right we got to enjoy the Christmas Show. The show was very entertaining, it had singing with some comedy and great Christmas songs. Before the show they recognized all the birthday people. Of course we told them ahead of time about Shorty’s Birthday, so they called  his  name…
Then the show…
This crazy looking guy is Otis he’s a comedian and is very entertaining. But to our surprise not only is he funny but when he sang it was amazing. Almost like Jim Neighbors… talk funny then shock everyone with an operatic voice. Then close to the end of evening the group sang Ghost Riders in the sky and every time they sang the chorus, to our surprise there was a ghost rider riding by outside the windows all the while a strobe light blinked… A very nice touch…
Later Ed and I got our picture with the ghost rider.
Ghost Rider
Until next time y’all, Happy Trails and Safe Travels…
