The Petroglyphs Adventure

Here is another GREAT site you must see… Just a little ways up HWY 17 just follow the signs to Coconino National Forest. But try to plan at least 1/2 day for this one because you won’t want to rush through and miss anything. The scenery is awesome on this mile hike from the Visitor's Center. Sandy, the park host was very nice and told us a little story about the ranch. Then we hiked down a nice level walkway that took us to the petroglyphs site. There we were met with Sandy’s husband Ian, who told us all about these drawings and what they meant. He told us the Hopi Indians were the ones that created these drawings. He also told us the story of the different ways the Hopi people told the seasons just by where the sunlight hit certain parts of the rock. The drawings even told the story of when they were to plant their corn and other crops. The story he told was amazing as are the drawing themselves. There are so many things here in Verde Valley, Sedona and Jerome  to see and do you need to plan at lease a week, you won’t want to miss a thing.

The writing is on the wall...
